It’s official. I’ve been accepted to, and will attend, the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University!
It has been a very difficult decision process to figure out which school I will attend. I only applied to the best of the best and have been accepted to multiple top 5 schools.
Over the past month or so, I’ve taken a few trips to the Chicago area to interview for, and attend classes at Kellogg. These class visits really solidified the decision for me.
I was also accepted to the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and had the opportunity to compare the classroom environments of Kellogg and the Chicago GSB on back-to-back evenings. This was a great experience and really helped to make this difficult decision.
So… now that the b-school journey has officially started, I’ll be adding another topic to the blogging mix here at ryanbarr.com.
If you’re an MBA student, or making a decision I’d love to discuss it with you. Drop a comment and lets start up some commentary!

I am deciding between the GSB and Kellogg, although for the part-time program. I would love to hear more about your thought process and why you picked Kellogg!
Irax,
For me it was a pretty tough decision. As I said in the post I was accepted to both schools and they are both top notch! You really can’t make a bad choice between the two.
Personally, my decision was swayed by two major factors. The first was my class visit. I was very impressed with the Kellogg faculty and students during my class visit. The class was very, very impressive, the discussion was robust and the students were all highly engaged. I really felt that “team” environment that Kellogg is known for.
The second factor for me was the “support” system that Kellogg has in place. The partners/significant connections program that Kellogg has in place is second to none. For my wife and I this was a key factor. We will be moving to Chicago so having a group of folks to plug into right away was key.
These two factors contrast fairly strongly to my experiences in the GSB classroom and the discussions that I had regarding a “spousal” support system from the GSB.
I’m happy to share more, just let me know what is on your mind.
Irax,
I am also choosing between Kellogg and Chicago GSB. Which one did you choose?
Ben,
Which direction are you leaning? I’d love to hear the thoughts that you have on the topic as well.
Congratulations! I start my MBA in September. I look forward to reading about your experiences.
Brian, what school are you attending?
