Journey to the Other Side… Part 2
Posted on July 20, 2008 at 4:56 pm By Megan in Barr Family BlogSo after our sleepless night, we were up bright and early (read: 5am) to load the cars and get back on the road. Everyone was pretty exhausted, and the thought of more driving wasn’t exactly high on our lists of desires. But off we went…
The routine for the dogs was beginning to get easier, and they were becoming much more comfortable in the car. They slept most of the time (on their beds and our pillows in the back of the Escape), and occasionally, we could see a head pop up in the rear-view mirror to check out the scenery before collapsing back down for another nap. My main concern was that they weren’t drinking much, and weren’t eating at all. I’m sure the stress for them was almost unbearable, but as their “mommy” I was pretty worried about them.
For lunch, we stopped at Little America (a huge truck stop/travel center in Wyoming), and when I got out of the car to gas up, I had a pretty nasty Braxton Hicks contraction. It was actually kinda scary, so I ended up getting grounded from driving, and was sent to Ryan’s car where I could recline a little easier to take the stress off my belly and back. It worked, because I was much more comfortable after that.
More driving through boring, flat scenery… more gas stops, more bathroom breaks, and more fast food (ugh!).
That night, we stayed at a Super 8 in Kearney, Nebraska… smaller rooms, smaller beds, but much less noisy. The pups seemed a little more comfortable, although they both still needed the aid of a little Benadryl to take the edge off. All four of us squeezed onto a queen-sized bed, and got a little more sleep than the night before (although not much).
Day Two Travel Statistics: 755 miles, approximately 11 hours on the road, stayed in Kearney, NE.
