We spent a casual evening in Tracy with Ryan’s parents, and several cousins.  We ate, watched YouTube videos, ate some more, and chatted a lot.  We turned the TV back on just in time to see the ball finish dropping, and everyone got a New Year’s kiss.

We got home about 1am, and usually when we come inside, the dogs are right at the door, ready for a good head scratch.  We opened the door… no dogs.  Thinking they might have already tucked themselves into bed, we checked our bedroom… no dogs.  No dogs in the living room, no dogs in the back yard, no dogs in the kennel or dog house.  OH NO!!!  Both gates were locked, so we knew they couldn’t have gone far.  I ran through the house, throwing doors open, and calling their names.  Finally, we opened the door to the guest room, and there they were.  Apparently, they had gone into that room to take refuge (I’m guessing) from whatever noises must have occurred at midnight, and somehow, they managed to shut the door and lock themselves in.  They were absolutely frantic to see us, and with a little more exploration, we discovered that they had tried their hardest to get out… there are huge gouges and scratch marks on the back of the door.  My poor babies!  They’re not usually bothered too badly by New Year’s noises, so there must’ve been one heck of a party in the neighborhood this year.
