Turning Hamburger into a nice New York Steak

Posted on October 29, 2008 at 8:00 pm         By Ryan in Investing | Disclaimer

It’s been a good week.  I decided that it is time to get back to the basics.  I don’t swing trade well.  I understand trading ranges, and can use technical analysis to make some great trades.
Last week, I stopped this stupid emotional cash hemorrhaging trading.  I’ve earned it all back and them some in just [...]

Getting ground up into hamburger

Posted on October 22, 2008 at 12:01 pm         By Ryan in Investing | Disclaimer

My account is getting ground into hamburger.  I did really well using options to make quite a nice profit in my account… Then I decided it would be fun to try and swing trade the “Ultra” ETFs.  I really, really suck at that.  I’ve managed to grind about 20% out of my account in the [...]

Economic Meltdown

Posted on October 21, 2008 at 9:07 pm         By Ryan in Investing | Disclaimer

What a mess we are in.
I’m not quite sure where to start with this post, simply because there is so much good information available about what is happening out there today.  I can say however, that I am not looking forward to the next few years of economic developments.

Northwestern defeats Purdue - now 6-1

Posted on October 18, 2008 at 7:35 pm         By Ryan in Barr Family Blog, Business School

The pre-game tailgate was at the Allen center, and very fun.  We had a chance to meet a bunch [...]

What a ride!

Posted on October 15, 2008 at 8:13 am         By Ryan in Options Trading | Disclaimer

I  haven’t played any paper money positions over the past few days; however, I’ve been swing trading this market daily and it has been quite a ride!
I started the cylce week by going long (calls) with a vertical spread on the 6th, bad, bad idea.  That position quickly lost more than 1/2 of it’s value [...]

MBA Olympics

Posted on October 6, 2008 at 7:33 am         By Ryan in Barr Family Blog, Business School

This weekend Megan, Ryder and I headed downtown to support the Kellogg team in the MBA Olympics.  Unfortunately we did not do so well
The trip was great fun and it was a great time to get out and spend some none academic time with my fellow Kellogg students, as well as those from [...]

Wooden Arrows Desinged for Use By Children

Posted on October 1, 2008 at 9:37 pm         By Ryan in Investing | Disclaimer

Sometimes our political process makes me want to simply vomit.  Well, that may be a little strong.
However… It truly saddens me that our political process has ‘politicized’ this economic issue so much.  Rather than working closely with economists and others in the space that truly understand the situation; our leadership decided it was time to [...]
